Giinagay Entry Pavillion

As one descends from the road above, a hardwood timber structure opens to receive occupants and visitors, guiding them into a semi-enclosed, octagonal entry courtyard. The geometry directly follows the planning of the original two-storey home, designed by Alan Rudge and built with his friends over 40 years ago, allowing the pavilion to sit comfortably within the presence of the existing dwelling.

Commissioned by the new owners, the brief was to extend the architect’s original vision through a sensitive and considered addition. The design responds carefully to geometry and visibility, while drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape. Conceived as a gentle, descending element — like a leaf falling across the sky— the entry sequence allows for an intuitive transition from public to private, respectfully complementing the character of the existing home.
