The Mulla Mulla House
Limited to a 100 sq. m enclosed floor area, the two-bedroom Mulla Mulla House is elevated above ground to create a generous storage and workshop space below. The raised form offers a contemporary, tree-house interpretation of the traditional Queenslander adapted to this specific site and client brief.
Accessed from the south-east, occupants ascend through a tropical stairwell, where filtered northern light guides the approach. Arrival at the main living level opens to framed views through the surrounding canopy towards the Gold Coast hinterland. A broad verandah creates usable open space around the north, east & west aspects allowing the house to remain open and naturally ventilated year-round.
With a compact internal footprint, circulation is deliberately externalised. Generous, covered outdoor decks replace internal hallways, allowing the bedrooms and living spaces to remain efficient, light-filled, and connected to the landscape.
